Build and Market a Website that Sells: Week 2
Hey, you're new. We like you already! You obviously have great taste! If you like what you read here you'll probably want to subscribe to our RSS feed (or the audio RSS feed). Stick around and be sure to speak up and post a comment or two!
Last Thursday I was back at the community college teaching a handful of business professionals from my EMP Book. We were about three students shy this week from last and then seemed to lose another half way through. That’s pretty typical, especially for a class like this where you hope the information being taught is not too far advanced to too beginner for your class, but inevitably you’ll find yourself slightly on either side at times.
I was told recently by someone who knows a thing or two about marketing that my EMP book is really for beginners, to which which I responded. Yep, sure is. I wrote it specifically for this class that I’m teaching at the college as well as anybody else looking for an introduction to the basics of web marketing. I’m considering putting together a more advanced book, as I’ve already been offered the opportunity to teach a more advanced class at the college, but it’s a matter of making time to do this.
But for now, the EMP Book is a good starter, and makes for a great starter course. The students in the class seem to be receptive and hungry for the information being provided. Last night I covered Sections 2 and 3 and finished up right at the two hour mark, but not leaving any time for the exercises. I’m going to wait until the 4-week course completed before deciding, but I think the next time I’ll add a fifth or sixth two-hour class to allow for a little more breathing room in the material, time for the exercises and going to the web for real-life examples, as I have found is necessary. I have already been scheduled to teach the class again this fall, starting in late October.
Next week we’ll be trying to get most of the way through Section Four, which is all about search engine optimization. This is the bulk of the book so a good portion of this section will bleed over into the fourth week. The fourth week will finish up SEO and move into Section Five and conclude the course.
