Can’t Stress It Enough!

Joel Walsh explains the connection between high rankings and good quality, unique content in his article, “Google’s Good Writing Content Filter.” This is good, clear information that can’t be stressed enough such as the need for updating at least once every couple weeks, original content and clear, relevant information.
“The web pages actually at the top of Google have only one thing clearly in common: good writing. Don’t let the usual SEO sacred cows and bugbears, such as PageRank, frames, and JavaScript, distract you from the importance of good content.”
“Updating: frequent updating of content, at least once every few weeks, and more often, once a week or more. ”
“Contextual relevance: text contains numerous terms related to the keyword, as well as stem variations of the keyword. The page may contain the keyword itself few times or not at all.”

I agree with the premise of the article but almost completely disagree with the conclusions. Walsh seems to imply that optimization is simply no longer necessary to achieve top rankings. What is most disturbing is that he implies that correcting spiderability issues isn’t even important. Sorry, but that’s just plain wrong.
