[Image no longer available]Copywriters are salespeople, like it or not. As a salesperson you have to know every detail of the product or service you’re writing about. How else can you convey the information to prospects who visit the site? Ask your client for samples of products, use of the services, or access to member areas of a site. Taking part in what your client is offering to visitors will make a huge difference in the persuasiveness of your copy as well as the quality. It will help you to be specific and help visitors determine how your client’s service can help them. Jargon doesn’t work anymore. Nothing comes across as well as copy created from experience. Consumers want the details. They want to experience the product or service before they invest their hard earned dollars in it. So let them. As the old adage goes, “The customer’s always right.”

That’s great advice… Too many marketers try to promote for their clients without having an adequate understanding of what they sell, thus the information is often inconsistent and doesn’t make for a good presell. I guess the bottom line is: Know what you’re selling!
March 6th, 2007 at 5:50 pmExactly. On top of this, too many advertisements are completely irrelevant for the sake of flash and an attempt to grab the consumers attention. For example I saw the side of a bus that had a picture of a man or a woman, couldn’t tell, with poker chips in its eyes. The point of the ad was for teenagers not to do drugs. What’s the relevancy here?
