Does Your SEO Own You?

Hey, you're new. We like you already! You obviously have great taste! If you like what you read here you'll probably want to subscribe to our RSS feed (or the audio RSS feed). Stick around and be sure to speak up and post a comment or two!

Do you get involved in your SEO campaign, or do you let your SEO do whatever they think is best? If the latter, well, I hate to break it to you, but your SEO owns you.

There is nothing wrong with trusting your SEO to do the right thing, but that trust should not include your complete absence from being involved in the course and direction of the optimization campaign. The reason for that is because your SEO is an expert in SEO, but they are not an expert in [insert your industry here]. You’re are! So anything the SEO wants to do is based on limited knowledge of you, your store and your industry. Their instincts may be right 90% of the time but its always important to be involved in the decision making process to ensure everything goes in the right direction.

Rely on your SEOs wisdom and experience, but don’t let them own you or your online marketing campaign.

    Completely agree.

This can be applied to many things. Those that don’t involve themselves and just delegate everything to others usually are left in the dark. I believe that you should keep an eye on your SEO people to a certain point. They’ll know that if they screw up, they’ll be hearing a lot more of you. No one wants that.
