Google is Watching

Matt Cutts, a Google engineer, has called out an SEO company for spamming. Nothing new there, but what is new is that Cutts says that Google reads press releases put out by SEO companies. That’s how he found the site mentioned in the blog post above.

Further down in the comments Matt says he’s calling this stuff out so that people (namely so-called SEO companies) will clean up their act before Google starts taking a harsher stand, which probably means banning.

Considering that we don’t use any such spammy tactics, I’m quite comfortable knowing that Google may be looking over my shoulder from time to time. Even better if this thins the field of these junk SEOs, as they do nothing but ruin the reputation of the industry.
