Good post Stoney. I think I am in basically the same boat as you from the consumer's perspective. I don't watch much live TV or listen to any radio and am missing out on much local advertising. And I think you are right that this is probably the "future average".

One potential way for a local business to get the word out to some of the people like us would be a site/newsletter that caters to local events. For example, Eventful. I came across this recently via a good social media marketing effort by the metal/grindcore band Cephalic Carnage who had an Eventful widget on their MySpace page that takes requests for the band to come play one's hometown. I made such a request and was introduced to the Eventful site by accident and now receive their newsletter which informs me of upcoming events in my hometown (not limited to metal/grindcore). I find this rather convenient for keeping updated on local happenings.

Obviously, it's not going to reach all of the "guys like us", but there are other sites like this out there, and I think becoming visible in places like this could help attendance at least for rodeos and event-based products.

i think there are too many companies tryin to advertise their products such that to date, even the process of advertising has many ways! newly invented. i believe that now companies knows customers of this generation goes for value more then just for the product itself. i would use creative designs that are unique to itself to reach my audience and attract their attention.
