Integrate PPC and Social

How to Social Proof Your Google AdWords Campaigns

You can now leverage the power of social media in your PPC ads.  With social extensions, pictures of a searcher’s friends who have +1′d a page will appear next to ads. This combination of social proof and herd mentality is powerful, especially at the bottom of the shopping funnel. Testing these can enable you to find out how to raise CTR, lower CPCs and increase conversion rates with the added psychological effects and attention.

Another positive: this helps increase accountability on the web. If your site or customer experience is poor, it will come out. Competitors will have endorsements that you won’t.

More control with “mute this ad” [x] icon

Another way Google is giving web users control over the ads they see is by putting a small [x] in the corners of display ads.  This allows users to mute ads from that advertiser’s campaign. This doesn’t mean they won’t see the ad again, as advertisers typically have numerous campaigns with different targeting. Google believes the benefits of this addition is improved control of the browsing experience for users and better performing ads for publishers and advertisers.

Optimize Ad Targeting

3 Tactics for Demographic Targeting on the Google Display Network

You can create different audiences for your ads to be targeted to in different campaigns (and now ad groups as we learned above).  AdWords allows you to target based on web user interests, web page topics that users view and specific websites in the Google Display Network.

AdWords “Flexible Reach” Brings Multiple Targeting Methods to Ad Groups

Instead of creating separate campaigns for specific types of targeting, you can now do it at the ad group level.  This makes campaign organization easier.
