PubCon 2006: Feed Me!

Hey, you're new. We like you already! You obviously have great taste! If you like what you read here you'll probably want to subscribe to our RSS feed (or the audio RSS feed). Stick around and be sure to speak up and post a comment or two!

The first session that I attended at Pubcon was entitled:

Feeds, Blogs, News, and Social Search.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to get out of this, and at first I wasn’t sure that I did get anything specific out of it. There were a ton of ideas running around in my head, but so much information in such a small amount of time makes it difficult to piece it all together.

However, after a while of considering what we could do with these marketing ideas, and listening to what my coworkers had to say about the information, I began to realize that advertising in feeds allows us to bypass many of the issues that more common marketing channels run into; including spam filters, long delays in distribution, and even rankings in the search engines.

I also saw that since feeds permit instant distribution of content we are able to keep our information up to date. For customers this means that subscribing to feeds makes viewing a large amount of online content in a short time easier, and allows them to know that the information in those feeds is current.

Since this session we have come up with several ideas and concepts that will benefit multiple users. I am interested to see where this will lead us in the future.
