I think so google is offering choices to users to see relevant ads of their interest even with the same keyword.

I gotta follow up with you on that Iskandar, how would it be good for advertisers and not publishers. Either they are clicking the ads or not, right? Unless you mean it's just more (possible) visible exposure.

Nope. No detectable difference in CTR so far.

Choices are good. But too many choices will confuse.

I think the benefit is for the advertisers, not publishers.

I think that what Google is trying to do is to kind of hint to users that these are "legitimate" ads and not just some garbage and you should try searching within them ... so here .... we even give you an option to scroll through ads.

Remember how the AdWords ads were ignored by people since so much spam was found there ... well with years it has changed a lot. Now Google is trying all the little ways of doing the same with AdSense.

Every little thing within those boxes will catch the attention of the user and that is exactly what Google wants to do with these ads. Remember ... AdSense ads are not appearing due to a specific search ... they are like billboards .... relevant only to the content around them.

I don't think that this was applied to drastically increase a CTR for the ads. I think it's just a strategy to bring more eyes to the ads and with time convince people that some of these ads are actually helpful to what people might be looking for.
