Search Engine Marketshare & Growth

Hey, you're new. We like you already! You obviously have great taste! If you like what you read here you'll probably want to subscribe to our RSS feed (or the audio RSS feed). Stick around and be sure to speak up and post a comment or two!

According to Nielsen/NetRatings, here are the current search market share numbers for October, 2005:

Google: 47.7%
Yahoo: 21.8%
MSN: 11.3%
AOL: 7.2%
Ask: 2.6%

Overall search volume jumped 15% from June to October, with Ask seeing the largest jump of 77%. While that seems huge, Ask gets a paltry sum of searches compared to the other engines so that percentage increase represents only 58,000 searches, compared to Google’s 21% increase (the second largest) which represents 400,000, during the same period. It should be noted, however, that Ask received 10,000 more new searches than MSN.
