Stoney ... good post. What I'd add is that ... SEOs try to make "science" out of being ranked well. In reality it's much less.

The main point here is to make sure your site is a "good" site and useful one to your visitor. You want to talk about On-Page optimization? Ok ...... last Friday I changed one word in one of the bullets we had. That word was an industry word and I changed it to the word that people use when they talk about it. Whalla ..... Today we went from being on page 4-35th place to Page 1 - 2nd spot. (On Yahoo). Google is not so quick.

But the point here is I can look at this little change from a scientific point of view and say .... wow, look at this trick. OR I can say ... we decided to use words that people use, thus making it easier for the person visiting the site and thus we get rewarded by search engines.

Did someone say that having your keyword on your site be a link brings more value? I think it does. But instead of spamming and doing silly things, we got that keyword to be a link, ..... linking to more info about the product. Simple stuff, yet powerful when it comes to SEO.

Bottom line is .... do everything you can to please the visitor. Your Conversion rate will rise and the Search Engines will follow.

Google wants to direct traffic to quality site. Websites want to be of value to the visitor in order to convert. So why are we, site owners try to please search engines, when the ones we should please are the visitors?

You can quote me on that ! ;-)
