What’s New With AdWords Keyword Tool

Look at you, you came back! We knew you just couldn't keep away for long. Why not make visiting us easy by subscribing to our RSS feed (or the audio RSS feed). Stick around and be sure to speak up and post a comment or two!

Do you like how Google AdWords have changed the keyword tool within AdWords?

In case you haven’t seen it yet … within your ad group, click on the keyword tool, (Your options are slightly different if you use the keyword tool linked from Tools)

You’ll find you no longer have tabs at the top of the tool for keywords and getting keywords from your site. Instead you’ll find there are three radio buttons, Descriptive words or phrases, Website content, or Existing keyword.

When the Descriptive words or phrases option is selected (which is the default selection) you enter keywords or phrases just like you did previously. It looks like this:

Selecting the Website content option has two options. You can generate a list of keyword suggestions from your landing page (which is entered by default if you use the keyword tool from within an ad group. It is blank if you use the keyword tool from the Tools on Campaign Management) or any website URL you like:

Or, a new feature allows you to enter text from your site or advertising material, and the Keyword Tool will generate a list of suggested key phrases:

And then there is the option for Existing keyword that allows you to click on the keywords that are currently part of your Ad Group.

This option is only available if you access the keyword tool through an ad group. If you access the keyword tool through Tools, AdWords doesn’t know which keywords to provide.

So back to my original question: Do you like how Google AdWords have changed the keyword tool within AdWords? Have you used the Website content new option for entering text? Has it been useful for you? I found the results are far more extensive than just using keyword phrases with the Descriptive words or phrases option. Not terribly relevant though, so be careful with what you use!

I am waiting breathlessly for your comments …
