Who Rules: Search or SEO?

There is an interesting, albeit irrelevant, debate going on at Search Engine Watch Forum about who rules who, the search engines or the SEO?

When all is said and done, I think they create a symbiotic relationship, each feeds the other and helps the other grow. But when if it comes down to who can live without the other entirely, I think the Search Engines win.
