Great post, Stoney. I just found this because I got spammed by the same UK company. Yes, they sent SPAM telling another SEO company what was wrong with their site and how they could help me. Well, maybe I could use a little help, but at least I don't have to SPAM people to get business...!!! :-)

You point about buying extra domains to protect your domain is valid, but perhaps not really practical. For example, polepositionsucks.com is not registered. In order to give yourself a real measure of protection, you would have to register a large number of domains which can get expensive and still may not be all that effective.

I'm not a lawyer, but I think it may be better to get your company name trademarked, and then you can better defend it's use in varations of domain names that include the trademark. Anyone interested in this idea shoulc contact a domain name or trademark expert to learn the details.

Your right about getting them while you can, not only for the reasons you mention. I get so many emails from people trying to sell me the other extensions of domains I already have at high prices. Its much better to get them at a discount price of $10 originally than to pay $100 later on!

Fortunately, I've not had your spam problems, but I did recently notice a very similar domain to ours that I'd thought about suddenly appear online. Grrr... I so wish I read a post like this to remind me of this about 6 months ago!
