Make Your Site More Attractive and Visible

Having a website is common practice today. Whether you have a small business, a personal page, or a fan site there are a few common goals. You want people to come to your site and either buy stuff, or read what is there. Once you have got them to visit your site once you are going to want them to continue to return to your site.

How do you get people to return to your site? Well first of all you have to have a good looking site. Do not skimp out on the look of your site, if it looks thrown together in a few seconds, then that is all anyone will spend on your site. If it looks like you have taken the time to design the site and it is easy to navigate you may get some one to browse a few pages before they leave.

Once you have got a great looking site you have got to work on the navigation. Make sure not to have too many options as some one can get confused when they come to your site. You want to make it as easy as possible to find the content that they have come there for. If you are able to do this they will return, or perhaps suggest your site to some one else. Here you have just created a return visitor as well as a new visitor.

Make sure that your content is up to date. Yes a website can be a full time job, as you will have to constantly update your information. People who have visited your site have already read or looked at what is there, so why would they come back unless you had more to offer them. This is only not true in a few instances. Video or media content of any sort such as wallpapers can bring repeat visitors with out being updated, especially if you have a huge archive of this stuff available online.

An easy way to update content with out much work is to allow user submissions. You can do this by creating a dynamic page that will display what is uploaded almost immediately. However, depending on the type of site you are running you may want to monitor what is put on your site, as some content can chase away visitors. You can also set up a forum or a blog and write in it every day.

Now you have added functionality to your website, and a reason for them to stay on your site after they have found what they came for.

Now you may notice that your site is not getting much traffic. If you type a subject that is relevant to your site in Google, does your site come up? If your site is completely original and there is not another preexisting site out there with the same topic then yes your site probably does, but if we have learned anything from books is that there is no such thing as an original idea. So how do you get your site to come up?

You can get a better position on the search engines a couple of ways. You can invest some cash into website marketing and search engine optimization services. If you are a business and your lively hood depends on your website being in the top 5 on the search engine, then that is what I suggest. It may cost some money, and take a few months before you see good if any results, but in time your site will work its way to the first page and possible to the number one position when searched for.

If you are running a fan site or a personal site I suggest doing it the old fashion way by having quality up to date information. Take some of the information that you put on your site and find forums and article distribution sites and submit your information. If you add a link into the text or a bio about yourself and your site at the bottom you are sure to get a few visitors to your site, and if the information that you have provided is good enough they may link to your website from their site. Granted their site may not be full of great information but some one will be visiting their site at some point and may find your link.

I know it is a slow process but it is worth the effort if you want more visitors.

Regardless of whether you are commerce or personal site you will want to make sure that your site is optimized. You can get an SEO company to optimize your site, but that may cost quite a bit. However if you are commerce then it will be worth it as an SEO company specializes in up to the date optimization tactics.

You can also use the one provided by the Microsoft Small Business Directory. This will cost you about 50 dollars but it will give you a years worth of time using the tools provided for you.

The last way, and the one that I suggest for anyone with out much money to put into their site, but are willing to invest time, is to optimize it yourself. Do some research online and find out what is the most recent way that sites are ranked and graded. Then take that information and apply it to your site until it is optimized to your satisfaction.

The bottom line is that you should take time and care when creating your site. In today’s world you website becomes an extension of you. If you follow the guidelines and suggestions above you will be on your way to a great site, with great content. How successful your site will be ultimately depends on you and your desire to make your site the best that it can be.
