The Visual Link Graph Project - Link Structure Research

Background of the Visual Link Graph Project

The Visual Link Graph Project is an ongoing research project housed at Pole Position Marketing which maps and studies various features of the Internet link graph; visually. At this point we are focused on identifying geometric patterns and fractal (self-similar) architecture across random samples of the Internet. We hypothesize that specific information concerning the type, quality and even general subject of a website; can be deduced through visual inspection of that website's 3D architecture.
At this early phase of the project our goal is to codify a system of visual website analysis, which uses readily identifiable geometries and geometric markers to make accurate predictions regarding various aspects of a website.

Link structure visualizations are generated using WebTracer2, a brilliant yet highly practical and usable application that spiders a supplied domain and generates an architectural map which can be explored in three dimensions.
