Do You Really Want to Know What They're Saying About You?

There are two camps of people, those that don’t want to know what others are saying about them and those that want to know everything anyone is saying about them. Much to my own dismay, I fall into the latter category.

For those of you like me, Google Alerts come in handy. Initially I used my Google Alerts just to keep up on new things happening within my industry. Then we started using it to keep track of articles and where they were published or picked up. Now I use it to track what others are saying about my company, but also about me specifically.

Recently I found out that I was a “poopie head”. Seriously. Check this out:

No, you won’t see it there… but if you highlight some white space you can see it:

It reminds me of something I read once, and for the life of me I can’t remember where, but it was something to the effect of: Be careful not to listen to closely to what others have to say about you, otherwise you’ll just wind up disappointed. Of course, this amused me more than anything, but if you’re a well-known entity I’m sure you can find all kinds of things, both positive and negative, about you if you look hard enough.

When it comes to being called a poopie head… well, I’ve been called worse! At least I know I’m making an impact on someone somewhere!
