A lot of discussions have sprung up over why MSN is now showing a PageRank of 2 (PR2) on their home page. I have not jumped into this conversation (until now) because, really it’s just silly. Is Google penalizing a competitor? Is this Google’s way of sticking it to MSN?
Their recent court battles have been big news in the industry, and surely Google is doing everything it can to stick it to MSN in those battles. But doing something so obviously vindictive with their PageRank scoring? Naw, I don’t buy it.
Search Engine Watch has the real story. It’s just a matter of redirects and Google’s inability to handle them well. A little research would have spared many from these silly allegations against Google. But that’s just not as fun!
