It’s no surprise that a large number of those searching for DIY SEO are looking for things that will provide the quickest wins. But SEO is a long-term play and rarely do results come overnight. That said, there is always the low hanging fruit–those opportunities that give you greatest value for the time invested.
On the content side of these quick SEO wins, start clicking through your site and review your content. Do you have pages with little or no information?
Now, I’m not talking about products or product descriptions, I’m talking about content that provides valuable information about your products or services overall. Typically, product category pages have no more information than links to whatever products fit that category. This is a lost opportunity. At the top of each product category page you can provide content that helps the visitor learn more about what you sell.
Many argue that people just want to get to the products, and it’s true that many shoppers certainly do. But no small amount of shoppers are in the research phase, which means they are not sure of exactly what they need. Good content helps “sell” them on the value of your products without having to look at each product individually. When you take away that content, you take away an important part of the sales/conversion process, and completely miss an opportunity for keyword optimization.
So for the quick win, write a short paragraph of great sales messaging content for all of your product category pages You don’t have to write a lot, nor do you really worry about optimizing it–that can come later. This is simply about giving your visitors and search engines something to help them understand the value of all the products or services you sell.
