Mozilla has released version 1.0 of the Thunderbird E-Mail client, which was released to compliment the surprisingly successful FireFox web browser, released last month. Mozilla’s latest open source offering is said to focus on stopping spam mail and malicious virii that currently plague many e-mail users. A personal test of the software did indeed confirm the enhanced security features, I however find the overall product to be a bit too restrictive, with default settings that don’t even allow automatic image viewing. Thunderbird, which has been in BETA since 2003, was created by volunteer developers under the direction of Mozilla Open Source.
