Baby Steps: What About Bob?

Recently my wife and I watched the movie What About Bob? I must have watched the movie a dozen times in college and probably just as many since then. For me, the best part about the movie is the baby steps concept.

Yeah, I know it’s all a joke for the movie, but you know what… it’s good real life advice. Most things we accomplish are not done in huge leaps. More likely they are done with a series of baby steps that lead you from where you are to your destination.

Web marketing–and SEO architecture in particular–is no different. It’s all about doing a lot of small things to help you achieve your goals. Some steps are bigger than others and, depending on the site, have more impact. But by and large, it’s a matter of analysis and change, analysis and change, analysis and change.

Unless you have no competition, you’re not likely to get to the top of the search engines overnight. But you can baby step your way there! The point is, to always be improving your web marketing efforts. Don’t rely on what you did yesterday and by all means, don’t let your competition catch you! Keep going, even if it’s one small step at a time.

How quickly you reach your goals really depends on how many steps you’re taking each day in relation to your competition. He who takes more steps wins. But you can’t even compete if you aren’t moving forward.
