The AMA's Definition of Marketing… True or a Bunch of Wordy Bull?

marketing: Marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders.

What do you think of this definition? I’d really like to hear what “marketing” is to you.

Though a bit wordy and convoluted, I think it’s actually a pretty good definition. It really makes it known that marketing is NOT the same as “sales”. Notice that it says part of marketing is managing customer relationships. Many people seem to forget that things don’t end after the initial conversion (CRM).

Max Speed

If the Pole Position Marketing team had a muse—and it does—it would be Max Speed. We love Max’s occasionally off-color, usually amusing and always pointed “Maxisms.” (Maybe “Maxims” would be a better word.) Max gives voice to some of the things we think but, bound by professional decorum, aren’t permitted to say. At least, not out loud.
