What’s That Domain Name Worth to You?

One of the first things you need to secure when building your web presence is your domain name. In fact, your domain name should be considered before you even choose your business name. If the business name you want doesn’t have an decent domain name available, you may be crippling your online marketing efforts before they even begin.

The domain name you ultimately choose — and the resulting consequences — can have a vast impact on your long-term marketing efforts. Long or hard-to-remember domain names can be the death toll for any website. Short or clever business names (such as Grafix4u) may be fun, but getting people to remember how the URL is spelled is another story altogether.

Your domain name is the key to the identity of your online business. The domain name you choose will have a significant impact on your brand identity, and, to a lesser extent, your keyword ranking performance. If you do not yet have an established business, you may want to wait on choosing a business name until after you have secured an available domain name.
